The “Viet Nam Star” in weight of 2,160
gram/ 10,800 carat was found in Tan Huong mine in Yen Binh, Yen Bai province. Because
of appreciation of being the biggest gemstone, The Government decided to keep it as the national precious thing
according to the writing no. 5346/VPCP dated November 22nd 1999 of
Office of Government.
Beside the “Viet Nam Star”, Yen Bai Gems
and Gold company mined a Star Ruby in Tan Huong mine. This gemstone contains 2
pieces in size 1,820 gram (9,100 carat) and 444 gram (2,220 carat). And the
Government made a decision of keeping it as the national precious object
according to the writing no. 2290/VPCP – CN of Office of Government dated June
8th 2004. Viet Nam Mineral Corporation handed over both of them to
Central National Treasury on June 18th 2004.
The two special Ruby gemstones represent
two fields of gems manipulation, the “Viet Nam Star” for Facet and the Star
Ruby for Cabochon.
